Miles Welby A Candle Co. partners with PA Wilds Center on candle line inspired by outdoors
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Miles Welby A Candle Co. is partnering with the PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship to create a line of candles inspired by outdoor recreation in the PA Wilds region.
Miles Welby was founded by Tyler Spooner in 2014 and is located in the heart of Williamsport, PA.
“I started making candles as a way to give myself a creative outlet,” said Spooner.
The company name, Miles Welby, is a pun from “might-as-well-be” and was created to illustrate scents in a playful and humorous way. “The character of Miles Welby allows me to give each candle a backstory that links back to Miles.”
Currently, Miles Welby’s adventures have created 33 candles, all within several collections. Miles Welby in the Pennsylvania Wilds Collection is one of their most recent and includes the Miles Welby Hiking and Miles Welby Fishing candle scents, with more to come. The PA Wilds-themed line of candles will feature region-specific language and references, as well as feature the PA Wilds branded design on the box. A portion of sales will support the PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship’s mission to marry conservation and economic development in a way that strengthens and inspires the region’s communities.
“Growing up in Lycoming County, the Pennsylvania Wilds are where I built my childhood memories,” said Spooner. “Those outdoor experiences are essential to who I am, and I know so many other people who can relate to those memories and the scents that go along with them. The olfactory response, our sense of smell as humans, is such a powerful connector to places we’ve been and things we’ve experienced.”
“It was important to me not just to create candles that represent my experiences in the Pennsylvania Wilds but also to give back to the region,” Spooner explained. “When people buy the PA Wilds-themed candles, they’ll not only get something that evokes a memory for them, but they’ll also help build those memories for other people by putting real dollars into this region’s mission. It’s a great feeling to know that I am a part of encouraging other people to explore the PA Wilds and help grow the region in a mindful way.”
One of the candles, the Miles Welby hiking candle, takes you through the sensory experience of taking a hike on one of Pennsylvania’s majestic mountains. Top notes of invigorating bergamot, precious saffron, and refreshing eucalyptus evoke the crisp morning air that greets you as you ascend to new heights. The heart of the candle reveals a bouquet of ethereal beauty, using flowers you might encounter in the forest, the scent of amber to represent a setting sun, and hints of spruce to evoke towering evergreens. Reaching the base, the candle unravels its earthy and grounding undertones with dark musk, vetiver, and cedar reminiscent of the ever-present trees and the forest floor beneath your feet. These experiences are things that both residents and visitors of the PA Wilds can relate to, helping to build their connections and memories in this beautiful region.
The candles can also be the perfect gift for visitors who are planning another getaway to the PA Wilds or those who might have left the region and are missing it. Sustainability is also an important part of both the PA Wilds Center’s and the Miles Welby A Candle Company’s values. All Miles Welby candles use only 100% soy wax blended with premium, non-toxic fragrance oils and packaged in recyclable materials. Candles are also poured by hand, ensuring that each one is unique and infused with Tyler’s passion for creating something special.
These candles are available now at the Miles Welby Candle Company in Williamsport, in the I-80 Frontier landscape of the PA Wilds, and on the Miles Welby website.
